5 Years ago. . .

Rachel and I are celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary today and I feel incredibly blessed to have shared those years with her. Some of my best memories of our life together so far have been the various challenges we faced.  It was in those moments that I knew how much Rachel respected and loved me.  She has been and will always be my best friend.

I thought I’d share a couple photos from when were first married. I can’t get over how young I look in some of the photos.  But we were pretty young at the time (me:21, Rachel:20)

The church that we were married in.  It was build during the civil war and had no pluming, electricity or modern heat.

Our sweet Ride for the day.

Sorry. . .

I am terribly sorry about not posting much on here as of lately.  I have been trying to stay on top of everything this summer, but that has shown to be a bit harder then I expected.  Rachel is past the morning sickness stage, which has been a huge relief to her(and me).  It amazes us at how fast everything seems to be happening and before long we’ll have another little one running around with Grace.   I am looking forward to the long nights of rocking, pacing and muffled singing come January.

Rachel and I have also been very busy with our photography business.  Things have gone very well for us this year and I feel truly blessed for all the opportunities that have been given to us.  We are starting to have a more defined style with our photos and it is a lot of fun to see that emerge.  If you haven’t had a chance to check out our new photography site, make sure to do that in the future. LINK  Our busy season will come to a close in mid October and then we’ll settle down a bit for the winter.  Hopefully I’ll have some time to squeeze in some skiing this year.

I have a ton of new photos to add to our gallery, so check that section over the next couple weeks for updates.

Lots of changes with my webpages

I am in the process of launching a brand new photography webpage and in doing that I am changing my hosting servers. So things are going to be pretty wacky for a few days, but don’t fret, I’ll have it back to normal before long.

Back on the Grid

I spent the past week up in the Boundary Waters with a few guy friends of mine.  I had been planning for this trip for five months and I had reached a point of obsession the weeks prior to our launch day.  The weather was about as good as I could have asked for.  The first couple days were a bit windy and cloudy, but then it cleared up and was really nice out.   During the day it was in the upper 50s and low 60’s.  At night it dropped into the low to mid 40’s.  I was very glad to have packed a warmer sleeping bag for a couple of the colder nights.  When planning for some of the meals, I had been planning on catching a few fish.  But that was not in the cards on this trip.  We spent countless hours fishing and were mostly skunked on our attempts.  My favorite lake by far was Pilsbury Lake.  It is a smaller lake that we spent our 2nd night on and was really secluded.  The images from that day will carry me until the next trip up there.  I will post some of my journal entries once I have time to retype them up.

Now that it has come and past, I am already thinking about next summers trip up.  I brought my camera, but didn’t take all that many photos.  Here are a few samples . . .

A Memorial Day at the Park

This afternoon, the three of us went down to the local park and had a little fun playing in the grass. We had been so busy this weekend with wedding photography and it was great to just get away from all things work and just have fun. Of course we had to take some photos of how cute Grace looked. Check out the slideshow!!!!  Here is a LINK to the gallery of photos

Close Call Tonight

We had a close call with a tornado today.  I was editing photo’s up in my loft and I noticed that it was really really dark. I love watching storms so I went and grabbed Rachel to watch it.  I glanced out the window and noticed something shiny flying threw the sky.  At first I thought it was a plane, but then I saw more and more of them.  Then I saw the tornado.  It had touched down less then 1/2 a mile from our house. There were no sirens or any warnings going off at that point.  Rachel grabbed Grace and the cats and I grabbed all my computer hard drives.  We were in the basement in less then 1 minute.  It was really loud outside and we had a lot of hail.  I saw about quarter sized when I peaked outside, but then it got really loud again so I went back into the basement again.  The new’s reported baseball sized hail just a mile south of us.  Those big shiny things I saw. . . They were the roof tops from the many home’s missing their roof now.

It’s moments like this that we really reflect at the value of our family.   I am so very grateful that nothing more then a little hail damage happened.

Rachel Laughed at My Fish

This past week I picked up a new ultralight fishing rod and reel and want to try it out tonight. So, Gerhardt and I went fishing for a couple hours on a local lake and caught a few smaller fish. Gerhardt snapped a shot of me with this little Large Mouth Bass. I showed Rachel this photo and she laughed at me

Today’s Fish Count:

  • Ben: 3
  • Gerhardt: 1

Grace + Swing = Incredible Fun

A couple weeks ago we introduced Grace to the swings at the local playground and she must take after me a bit in the thrill sports side of things.  She just loves to sore through the air and giggles so loud. I need to shoot some video so you can hear her laugh.  I can’t wait to show her all the fun stuff we can do together once she is a little bit older.  I threw a few photos up in the gallery if you want to check them out. Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day!

My parents visited this weekend. We had a great time playing games, visiting with friends in Waconia, and taking Grace to the neighborhood park. Ben and Gerhardt spent Saturday playing the Wii and looking at camping gear at Joe’s. Gerhardt brought his Wii over on Saturday night. Everyone got in on the fun. It was a first time experience for my dad, mom and myself! We took turns battling in tennis, golf, boxing, baseball, and Mario cart. Gracie even tried to copy our movements… We enjoyed the church service this morning and had a nice brunch back at our house afterward. We all went to Cold Stone for a treat, and Gracie slept through the whole thing… so she missed out, but the rest of us enjoyed our sugar overload. And of course, ended the weekend with a little photo session outside. Click here for the photo gallery.
