I love the city of Duluth and when Shawna asked me to meet them up there for an engagement shoot, I was so excited. What I didn’t expect was the crazy weather we had when we were up there. As soon as I rolled in I was kinda shocked to see …. nothing! There was a thick fog everywhere and pretty much blocked the entire waterfront and most of the lower city from view.
Fog steals the color and contrast out of photos and makes everything a bit more interesting as you really can’t use much flash. All you can really do is embrace the conditions and have as much fun as you can. The fog did eventually lift for use and it turned into being a really awesome day.
In mid May, I got some of the new Pocket wizard remote flash triggers that do full Ettl and had been having some issues with them. I had learned some work arounds that actually worked well, so I wanted to do a “practice” shoot with some friends to put them through a real life test. They worked pretty good and only had a couple times that I had to pop the batteries to start from scratch with them. I’m not 100% confident with them yet, so I will probably mix them in my more laid back shoots. Pocket Wizard is a great company, so I’m sure they will release an update soon to resolve the IR noise issues that nearly all Canon shooters are having.
This past winter I met up with Aaron and Kacey for their engagement photo’s down by the Lake Harriet Bandshell. You never know how things are going to go when it comes to cold weather sessions, but the besides a strong wind coming off the frozen lake, we were blessed with a great day. I am going to be shooting their wedding this upcoming October and it looks like it will be a ton of fun.
Britney and Zack met up with me for a fun engagement shoot during what I thought was probably the last week of autumn color. We were chasing the light in the early evening and had a blast walking around the riverfront area. We even stuck around for a little night bit of night shooting. Look through these photos makes me miss the warm weather as we hunker down for a long cold minnesota winter.
I drove a couple hours north to hook up with Melissa and Erik for an engagement shoot out at a local park near Brainerd, MN. Sad to admit this, but I had never been up there in my adult memory. I think I visited it when I was kid, but those memories are long gone. I got there a little early to scope things out and we ended up with some fun shots in a new area to me. I also was able to meet Melissa’s parents and their little girl who reminded me a lot of my daughter Grace. Here are a few samples from the shoot.
 This past Autumn I spent a couple hours with Sam and Samantha out on Nicollet Island in Minneapolis. This is probably one of my favorite places to go in the fall since it offers such great variety. Here are a few of my favorites.

A couple monday’s back I spent a couple hours downtown goofing off with Pete and Angie. We were able to get our photos in just before a big storm rolled in and put an end to that. Here is a sampling of the photos we shot.
I shot some photo’s with Becky and Pete a few weeks back and want to repost them back up on here. We spent a good couple hours goofing off and having fun over by the river in Minneapolis. I killed my blog a week after I initially posted them , so here are some samples again. Their wedding is coming on the 2nd of August, so expect to see some more of them soon.
